BTEC Level 3 Diploma in Business

Overview

This is a practical course that looks at real life situations and allows students to develop the skills and knowledge required in a modern day business. Students will study topics such as Marketing, Finance and Management issues by relating them to case studies of actual businesses and the problems they experience.

This is a two year course and is equivalent to two full A Levels.

Progression

Business Studies graduates are in growing demand in Accountancy, Finance, Marketing, Human Resources and Banking. A qualification in Business can help set students apart from other applicants and provide them with essential knowledge that will help prepare them for the world of work.

Educational Experiences

Course Specific Trips, Visits & Experiences

BTEC Level 3 Diploma in Business students have the opportunity to take part in a variety of course related experiences. In recent years, these have included:

  • A visit to Blackland Farm - outdoor activity
  • Canon business project
  • Assignment work linked to Tesco, Thorpe Park, Costa and Nintendo

In addition to course specific experiences, students also have the opportunity to get involved in the College’s:

Activities Programme and Guest Speaker Programme.

Assessment

This course is assessed through 100%  coursework.

The exam board for this BTEC Diploma is Pearson BTEC.

Entry Requirements

All students need to have at least five GCSEs at Grade 4 or above (and a satisfactory school reference) in order to be accepted on an A Level/BTEC Level 3 Programme. 
 
In addition, students will need the following minimum combination of GCSE grades:
 
  • Grade 4 in a numerate subject such as Maths or Science, and
  • Grade 4 in a literate subject such as English Language, English Literature or History
 
A Merit or above in BTEC Level 2 Business will also be considered.
 
GCSE Business is not a requirement.
 
Students will enjoy this course if they are able to:
 
  • complete coursework
  • do presentations and pitches
  • develop an understanding of how businesses work
  • complete independent research
 
Students should also have a general interest in how businesses work, be comfortable with ICT and enjoy group work, problem solving, presentations, working with numbers and meeting deadlines.

How to Apply

Applications for entry September 2018

The application form for the academic year 2018-2019 is available to download here.

Students from non-partner schools must return their forms directly to Reigate College, NOT their schools. All applications will be considered according the College's Admissions Policy.

Students from partner schools (Reigate, Warwick, de Stafford and Oakwood) should return their completed Partner Schools Application Form to their school. 

The initial cut-off date for applications for entry September 2018 is 1st November 2017. A student's chances of obtaining a place are higher, the earlier the application is made. Students who apply after 1st November 2017 will be placed on a waiting list.
