Students gain leadership experience at Reigate Priory Junior School

Twenty eight Reigate College students have been taking part in a four week (part-time) volunteer programme with Reigate Priory Junior School, as part of their Community Sports Leadership qualification.

Students have been doing this additional Level 2 course since September, alongside their A Level or BTEC Level 3 courses.

Nick Chadwick, the Sports course leader explained, “The course gives our students to chance to gain a recognised qualification that they can then use to gain paid employment.

“20 Sports students and 8 Dance students took part in this year’s course.

“Sports Leadership students led sessions at the school in 100m sprint, long jump hurdles, shot putt and javelin and then ran a competition in the final week. It was an excellent opportunity for our students to demonstrate their leadership skills and it was great seeing the youngsters having so much fun".

In addition to the athletics, the Dance Leadership students supervised by the College’s Head of Dance Claire Taylor, organised a range of dance workshops, that neatly linked to the school's dance curriculum.

Emily Pettifor from Reigate Priory School commented, “The children loved the sessions and we saw a great improvement in them.”
