We look forward to meeting you on Choices Day on Wednesday 27 August. We hope you achieved everything you set out to, but we are aware you may have some queries about your results. The following Q&A should answer most of them.
What do I do if my GCSE grades are not as expected?
Don’t worry! You don’t need to contact the College in advance, as we’ll look at all the options for you when you come into College on Choices Day (Wednesday 27 August). The purpose of Choices Day is to help you finalise your courses, once you know which courses you are eligible to do, based on your GCSE results. .
If you need to switch courses because you haven’t met the entrance requirements for a particular course you wanted to study, we recommend you start researching alternative course options in advance of Choices Day and your enrolment interview. Please obviously make sure you check the individual entry requirements for your preferred courses.
What if I have got lower grades than expected?
The first thing to consider is do you have at least 5 GCSE’s at grade 4 or above? If the answer is yes, then you still qualify to do a Level 3 Programme, which depending on your grades, will be made up of A Levels and BTEC Level 3 qualifications.
You need to think about the individual subjects you want to study and look at the entry requirements for each subject on the College website (Our Courses (A to Z). If you have not met the individual course entry requirements, you will need to look at alternative courses that you are eligible to study. You will be given help with this on both Choices Day and during your enrolment interview.
What if I have not got 5 GCSEs at grade 4 or above?
Students who don’t achieve five GCSE passes at Grade 4 and above will unfortunately not be accepted at Reigate College.
In previous years, the College has been able to offer students who didn’t qualify for an A Level (or equivalent) programme the opportunity to do a one year ‘Intermediate Programme’ (GCSE equivalent). Due to changes in government policy this is now no longer the case.
The College offers GCSE resits in:
- Biology
- English Language
- Mathematics
These will be added to students’ A Level (or equivalent) programmes.
What if I have not passed my Maths or English GCSE at grade 4 or higher?
If you don’t have at least a GCSE grade 4 in Maths or English Language, but do have 5 GCSEs at grade 4 in other subjects, then you will have to re-sit the relevant subject(s) as part of your Study Programme. This is possible alongside a Level 3 Programme, but some course choices may not be an option for you, if they have a specific entry requirement for GCSE Maths or English Language, above what you achieved at GCSE. Please check Our Courses (A to Z) for details.
What if I have done better than expected in my GCSEs?
Congratulations! The College has a team of well-qualified interviewers who will be able to advise you at your enrolment interview about the best subjects and courses of action open to you. You may be eligible for the College’s Aspire Programme, but will be notified about this during your enrolment interview. The focus of your enrolment interview will be ensuring you continue to do well and build on the success of your GCSEs.
