Reigate College is a Sixth Form College working in partnership with the University of Brighton, University of Sussex and Xavier Teach South East to offer initial teacher training, leading to Qualified Teacher Status (QTS).

This route into teaching is available through the Surrey Downs Partnership. Please visit the Surrey Downs Partnership website for further information about the providers and how to apply for a place.

UK university degree (2:2 or above) or a recognized equivalent qualification

Grade C (4) above in GCSE English Language and Mathematics

All candidates offered a place on a teacher training course will be required to satisfactorily complete an Enhanced Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) check (formerly known as a CRB check), including a check of all cautions and warnings as well as convictions before their place can be confirmed. The University will pay the cost of this check on your behalf.

To find your secondary teacher training course please use the Surrey Downs Partnership website and select current vacancies, you will then be directed to the Find Postgraduate Teacher Training Service on the gov.uk website, select ‘By university or other training provider’ and type in Surrey Downs Partnership, then select ‘Secondary’ and select the secondary subjects you want to teach.

As you progress as a qualified teacher, opportunities to study your practice at Master’s level, will be available at many universities.  This may be something you would want to consider.
